    Our experts answer your questions

What is the process for buying land?

The process of buying land is fairly similar to buying an existing home. You’ll need to find the right land, enquire with the estate agent, view the land and then make an offer.

But there is a lot more to think about. That’s why it’s a good idea to find an estate agent who specialises in land to help you with the process.

They’ll help you get to know the different types of land and what size plot you’ll need. They can find out if the land already has planning permission and work alongside your solicitor and surveyor to make sure everything goes smoothly.

How much does it cost to buy land?

Two of your biggest costs will be hiring a solicitor and hiring a land surveyor. They’ll help you do all the paperwork and check the land is suitable for your use.

You may need to pay Stamp Duty if the plot of land is over a certain price. And be sure to factor in the cost of applying for planning permission if the land doesn’t come with it.
