Bolt takes the Gold for property values on sporty streets

8th August 2016

  • Properties on streets featuring ‘Bolt’ top Zoopla’s list of games-themed street names, with an average property value of £563,106
  • Properties on streets featuring ‘Wiggins’ come second place (£465,530)
  • Sports also feature heavily in the top 10 with popular water sport, ‘polo’ coming in third followed by ‘golf’ and ‘football’
  • Properties on streets with ‘gold’ in the name are more valuable than ‘silver’ or ‘bronze’
  • Leading property website Zoopla reveals that Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt doesn’t just dominate the sporting world, but his namesake also takes gold in the property market. The average property on streets featuring ‘Bolt’ in the name is worth £563,106, making it the most valuable games-themed street name in the UK.

Zoopla’s rankings also found that streets which share their names with some of Britain’s most successful athletes are close runners up in the property value stakes. Properties on streets with ‘Wiggins’ in the name came in second place, with an average property value of £465,530, while roads that share a name with medal-winning rower ‘Redgrave’ finished in ninth place (£328,726). Unfortunately, whilst gymnastics star Beth was a medal winner, roads featuring ‘Tweddle’ don’t fare quite so well in the property market, as streets of the same name had an average property value of just £69,859.

On the games front, popular water sport, ‘polo’ takes pole position in Zoopla’s rankings (third overall) where the average property on streets containing this name are valued at £431,578, closely followed by streets featuring ‘golf’ (£388,490) and ‘football’ (£380,148). However, our love for tennis is not reflected in property prices, as properties on these streets are almost half the average value of those on ‘polo’ streets (£252,607).

Gold might be the ultimate prize when it comes to the sporting world, but it appears it also takes the top podium place in terms of property prices. Properties on ‘gold’ streets are worth significantly more than ‘silver’ or ‘bronze’. The average property on a street with ‘gold’ in the name is worth £333,570, compared to ‘silver’ where the average property is £277,739 and ‘bronze’ at £257,282.

The most valuable ‘gold’ named streets are Gold Hill in Farnham where properties are valued at an average of £1,962,209, followed by Gold Hill in Shepton Mallet (£1,063,021) and Gold Street in Northampton (£1,061,810).

Lawrence Hall, spokesperson for Zoopla comments: “From this latest research, it appears that it’s not only London’s streets that are paved with gold, but roads that share their name with Jamaica’s most famous sporting export are too. With homes on streets containing ’bolt’ worth 73 per cent more than the current national average (£263,859). It’ll be interesting to see if this golden performance in property values is repeated on the athletics track this summer.”
